Hello I'm Bill and I would like to introduce myself and tell you a little more about my background and experience and how I work as a therapist. This should help you decide whether we are a good fit in terms of working together.
For most of my adult life I have worked in the helping professions. My first training was as a nurse working with people learning disabilities. Shortly after this when I was heading up a respite care unit for children with learning disabilities and challenging behaviours I was exposed to systemic family therapy training which then piqued my interest in the wider arena of counselling and psychotherapy. I consider myself very fortunate that at this time i worked closely with a clinical psychologist who took a very integrative approach to our therapeutic interventions. This integrative approach has become very important to me, and what it means is that I fit the therapy to the person drawing from a range of approaches as opposed to fitting the person to a specific model.
After this I spent many years as a trainer and facilitator, teaching people a wide range of subjects, such as counselling for front line workers, stress management, assertiveness training, relationship building and group work skills. I taught both within the NHS and in corporate and voluntary sector settings.
Parallel to this I have spent more than thirty years practising and teaching meditation. This has had a strong influence on my approach to hypnotherapy.
